Mr. T.K. Daniel, the founder Chairman launched Popular in 1965 as a Chitty Fund with registered office at Vakayar, near Konni in Pathanamthitta Dist of Kerala State in India. From the humble beginning, it has attained the present stature due to the efficient management of affairs, and careful handling of funds. There is a board of directors headed by the chairman to monitor and control the activities in general. The responsibility of managing the day-to-day affairs is vested with Mr. Thomas Daniel (Roy) the Managing Director who is supported by a team of professionals.
Very soon the institution became "popular" among the public resulting in registering a steady growth in business. People from all walks of life accepted Popular as the synonym for stability and reliability. Mr. T.K. Daniel, supported by his son Mr. Thomas Daniel (Roy), the Managing Director, widened the business by opening new branches inside and outside the state and also ventured into various other business activities.
As the financing activity is restricted to advance against gold ornaments, the institution is returning handsome profits every year. There are about sixty branches, spread out inside and outside the state, apart from the offices in Dubai and Australia. More than four hundred qualified regular staffs constitute the workforce of the institution. Temporary staffs in the field who work on contract basis also contribute to the business growth. The clientele varies from the very ordinary to the high-income group.
